The 30-Day Clock Explained

Coen's fight to save his family runs against a hard 30-day, 30-night deadline — but most of what you do in Vale Sangora doesn't actually touch that clock. Here's exactly what costs time, what's free, and what happens if the counter runs out.

This guide reflects what's known shortly after launch (September 3, 2026), cross-checked across multiple independent community sources. Exact time costs for specific quest steps can vary — treat the general rules here as reliable and individual numbers as approximate.

The numbers

The countdown covers 30 days and 30 nights, split into 8 time segments per day and 8 per night — 16 segments per full cycle, 480 segments across the entire run. This clock starts once the Prologue ends (after Smoke and Ashes); the Prologue itself runs on its own smaller time budget separate from the 30-day counter, covered in our main story walkthrough.

Day 1 → Day 30 (480 segments) overtime = Time Runs Out clear the Vrakhiri Court before this runs out family is killed

What's actually free

Contrary to how it feels at first, almost everything you'd want to do while getting oriented costs nothing:

Broadly: exploring, fighting, and looting don't touch the clock. It's committing to specific story or system actions that does.

What actually costs time

The calendar only advances when you commit to an action that displays an hourglass icon — a specific dialogue choice, quest step, or shrine action. Quests aren't charged all at once; individual steps inside a questline can have different costs, and some steps have none at all. A few confirmed examples:

ActionCost
Restoring a destroyed shrineAlmost always 1 segment — see our exploration guide
Learning a skill at a shrineCosts time, per our beginner tips
Key story-advancing dialogue/quest stepsVaries by step — watch for the hourglass icon before confirming

What happens if you run out

If more than 30 days pass after the Prologue without clearing the Vrakhiri Court, you get the Time Runs Out ending: Brencis kills Coen's family, and the story pivots from rescue to revenge. It's a genuine ending, not a fail state that kicks you back — but it carries no trophy, and see our endings guide for how it compares to the other six.

Practical takeaway: don't ration your exploring — walking, fast travel, looting, and fighting are all free, so scout freely. Just get in the habit of pausing at any hourglass-marked prompt before confirming it, especially shrine restorations and skill purchases, since those are the actions that actually eat into your 480 segments.
